Generating ultra-pure hydrogen on demand is now almost as simple as making a cup of ground coffee, thanks to a crucial breakthrough process in green hydrogen generation, storage and transport announced by EPRO Advance Technology (EAT) this week. The inert vacuum-packed cartridges of a revolutionary porous silicon material called Si+ could be compared to those coffee machine pods and capsules - just add water and release the product, says Albert Lau, CEO of EAT. Si+ acts as a solid-state hydrogen generating material – robust, ultra-safe, compact and easily transportable – and it will solve the long-standing challenges of the mass storage, transportation and safe handling of hydrogen. Si+ technology has the potential to bring forward the hydrogen economy by decades, transforming hydrogen from the fuel of the future to the fuel of tomorrow.
